Illuminations Volume 28 -- Flash Writing Contest
Write small. Dream big.
Join fellow writers for the SCC Flash Writing Contest Kickoff on September 14 from 2:00–3:00 p.m. in Room 206 on the Lincoln Campus.
The kickoff event will include:
- Creative writing prompts
- An open mic reading opportunity
- Raffle prizes
- Opportunities to sign up for the student editorial board
- A chance to meet other SCC and local writers
Following the kickoff, writers will have one week to create and submit original flash writing through Submittable.
Submission Categories
Flash Fiction
- Maximum length: 1,000 words per submission
Flash Poetry
- Maximum length: 500 words per submission
Flash Nonfiction
- Maximum length: 1,000 words per submission
Writers may submit work in more than one category, provided they follow the submission limits for each category.
Submission Guidelines
- All entries must be the writer’s original work (no AI-generated work accepted).
- Submit entries through this Submittable form.
- Please proofread your work before submitting.
- Do not include your name or other identifying information in the submitted manuscript.
- Submissions must be received by Monday, September 21 @ 11:59pm.
- Work received after the deadline will not be considered.
Prizes
Cash prizes will be awarded to category winners and overall contest winners. Winners will be notified after judging is complete.
We welcome writers of all experience levels. Whether you regularly write fiction, poetry, or nonfiction—or simply want to experiment with something new—the Flash Writing Contest is an opportunity to create, connect, and share your work.
